Call to the

National Joint Council

Elections Matter

Las Vegas, Nevada – June 26-29, 2016

This National Joint Council (NJC) will be held at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada from Sunday June 26 through Wednesday June 29, 2016. The NJC is the one time every 18 months that NOLSW members from around the country gather together in one place to attend workshops, listen to speakers, discuss issues, solve problems, anHAVE SOME FUN!

With a Presidential election looming, we face an uncertain future. Income inequality has reached proportions not seen since the era of the Robber Barons. In the wake of Citizens United, plutocrats are pouring billions of dollars into the political process, too often convincing working people to vote against their own economic interests. In state after state controlled by Republican legislatures and Governors, voting laws are being changed with deliberate intent to disenfranchise poor and minority voters.

At the same time, there is a growing awareness among many Americans that our country is going in the wrong direction. Around the country, activists are striving to shine a spotlight on economic injustice and political corruption. Ordinary people, working together, are beginning to demand that politicians stop catering to the über-wealthy and the corporations, and start representing the interests of working people.

Please join us at the NJC—when we come together in support of a common cause, to make sure our voices are heard—

Elections Matter

UNIT REPRESENTATION AT THE NATIONAL JOINT COUNCIL

Under NOLSW Bylaws, each unit is entitled to send two (2) Representatives to the National Joint Council (NJC), one of whom is the unit Chairperson.  Units may send Additional Representatives if they so choose.  All Representatives, other than the Unit Chairperson, must be elected by the membership.  Election shall be by a majority of those votes cast and contested elections shall be conducted by secret ballot.

Each Unit may send as many Additional Representatives as they wish, but all Representatives must be elected.  Subsidized and Additional Representatives have voting rights, as determined by their delegation, up to the total amount of votes provided in the Bylaws of NOLSW, UAW Local 2320.  Units are encouraged to send as many representatives as possible.

Subsidized Representatives: NOLSW will subsidize one Representative from each unit.  The registration fee for the subsidized representative is $150 which includes NJC materials, some meals during the NJC and travel costs.  The unit is responsible for paying for the hotel and other incidental expenses.  Subsidized unit representatives must use the union designated travel agent to purchase airline tickets.

Additional Representatives:  The registration fee is $350 which includes NJC materials and some meals during the NJC.  The unit is responsible for the travel costs, hotel and other incidental expenses.  Additional Representatives may use the union designated travel agent to purchase airline tickets, but must provide their own method of payment or designate on the registration form that the airline tickets and/or registration fees may be deducted from unit’s Centrally Maintained Account.  Authorization to deduct fees from the CMA must be signed by the Unit Chairperson.

Guests:  The registration fee for guests is $350 per adult or $150 for children ages 7-18 (children under the age of 7 are free) which includes some meals during the NJC.  The guest is responsible for their own travel costs, hotel and other incidental expenses during the NJC.  Family of representatives, who do not wish to register for the entire NJC but want to attend the banquet only, may purchase banquet tickets for $115 per adult or $65 per child ages 7-18 in advance.  Guests may use the union designated travel agent to purchase airline tickets, but must provide their own method of payment.

Hotel Costs:  NOLSW has negotiated a reduced rate at the Luxor Hotel for NJC 2016 for representatives and guests of $50 per night plus taxes and a $14 per night resort fee which includes Internet, use of the fitness center and other hotel amenities.  All representatives must stay at the Luxor Hotel. Unit representatives will not be reimbursed for charges at any other hotel.

Registration: Attached is a Registration form that each Representative (Subsidized or Additional) and guest must fill out and have signed by the Unit chairperson.  Registration fees must be paid at the time the form is submitted unless the unit requests them to be deducted from their Unit’s Centrally Maintained Account. Upon receipt of the completed registration form and payment, the union administrators will email each registrant instructions and procedures for contacting the union travel agent and making hotel reservations.
