NOLSW Proposed Bylaws Change

TO: NOLSW/UAW Local 2320 Members

The National Executive Board (NEB) is proposing the following bylaws admendments which will be voted on by the delegates to the National Joint Council Meeting at the Business Meeting on January 22, 2015.  A copy of the proposed bylaws changes is attached.

Bylaws amendment proposal #1

Realign the existing NOLSW regions to better conform to UAW geographical regions: the Midwest region will include UAW regions 1, 1A, 1D, 2B and 4. The Southwest Region will include UAW Region 5 states, excluding the former UAW Region 6 states, which will comprise the West Region. The Southeast Region will include all of UAW Region 8. The Northeast region will include UAW Regions 9 and 9A.

                                 ARTICLE VI REGIONAL STRUCTURE

NOLSW shall be divided into five (5) geographical regions, which shall be:

Bylaws amendment proposal #2

Amend Article VII to separate the Trustee position from the Regional Vice-President and Human Services Vice President positions. This change will expand the National Executive Board from 10 to 13 positions, providing additional opportunity for new officers to be elected. The change will take place effective with the next regular election scheduled for 2016.

ARTICLE VII OFFICERS

Section 1: Composition.

A. NOLSW shall have the following National Officers: President, National Vice-President, Human Services Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary/Treasurer, five (5) Regional Vice-Presidents who shall be the Regional Vice-Presidents for the Northeast, the Midwest, the Southeast, the Southwest, and West regions, and three (3) Trustees. In the event that a Retired Workers Chapter is established, in which at least twenty-five (25) retired members are enrolled, the Chapter members shall be entitled to elect a Chairperson who shall serve as Retired Members Vice-President. There shall be three (3) Trustees selected from among the Human Services Vice-President, the Retired Members Vice-President, and the Regional Vice Presidents. The Regional Vice-Presidents shall reside in and be elected by their respective regions. The Human Services Vice-President shall be a member of a local unit representing in whole or part human services workers. In the election of all officers, members are urged to consider diversity of race, gender, and job title among the candidates.

B. The two Regional Vice-Presidents and Human Services Vice-President selected to be Trustees as of January 2015 shall continue to serve in both offices until the next regular election scheduled for 2016.
